How a D Minus Student won Accolades for his Electrical Innovations

By the time John Magiro was writing his final exams, he had already used his innovative mind to light up the village. When he got D Minus in KCSE, his teachers were not impressed, but decided not to give up on him.

Even teachers find it hard to understand how this young man could be a renowned engineer in his village. Even though he failed in the sciences especially Chemistry and Biology.

Magiro who is currently 29 says he developed an interest in building things when he was in primary school. He struggled through many failures before he finally created a generator for his village that works.

"When some environmentalists came to inspect my project, they wee impressed and entered me into Youth Innovation Green Energy Award. I bagged this award in 2015 and got a cash prize of Sh1 million,” Magiro told the Standard.

Magiro has since gained fame in his village and beyond. To connect to his power plant the installation fee is 15,000 Ksh. Monthly charges are 200. He currently employs 14 people in his business.
